Adventure on a staircase - My first story

Adventure on a staircase

                                                                                                                                By Varun Vijay

Once there lived a boy called Sam. Sam’s hobby was to ride his bike around town with his friends Robert and Sally. Sam and Robert were the same age. Sally was the youngest but the most adventurous. One day Sam, Robert and Sally were talking on phone. “Why not we all meet at my house?”, asked Sam. “Of course”, said both Robert and Sally.

Once they all met at Sam’s house, Sam decided that they play down in the basement. Sally willingly agreed. Robert nearly fell over as they walked down the creaky stairs. “Hey what’s this?”, said Robert.  “Wow! It looks like a secret passage way”, said Sam. “It must have opened when I pushed this button”, said Robert. “Isn’t it so cool Sally”, said Sam! But it was no use, Sally was already exploring the passage way. “Have you found anything Sally”, asked Robert? “Yes”, said Sally. “What is it?” asked Sam in surprise.

It was a small door on the wooden floor. Sally asked if she could open the door. “Alright,” said Robert. Under the door was a huge staircase. “Can we please go down the stairs?”, asked Sally who was determined to explore the world under the staircase. “Okay,” said Sam, “as long as we stick together and come back soon or else our parents will be worried”. “Okay,” said Sally. The stairs seemed to go on forever. After a while, Robert began moaning that he was tired. “Just a little further”, said Sally. “Remember as soon as we reach the end of the staircase we must go back home”, said Sam. Alright said both Robert and Sally. “Now let us continue our journey”, said Sam who himself wanted to find out what would be there below the staircase. Soon the staircase split into three staircases. “Now what will we do?” asked Sally. “Why not we split?” asked Robert. “No, we must stick together!” Sam said sternly. “But maybe we can go to each staircase one by one”. The first staircase led to a land full of chocolates. In the land of chocolates everything was made of chocolate the Sun, the rain, were all made of chocolates. “Amazing! Can we eat some of these chocolates?” asked Sally. “I don’t know if it is safe”, said Sam. “But they do taste very good”, said Robert, who had already stuffed his mouth full of chocolates. But as soon as Robert finished eating the chocolates a huge chocolate monster appeared. Robert was terribly scared but did not tell anyone. “If only we had vegetables”, said Sam. “I have a few vegetables”, said Sally. As soon as Sally threw the vegetables at the chocolate monster it disappeared. “Shall we check the second staircase?”, asked Sam. “But how? The stairs have disappeared”, said Sally. “We need to find another way out”, said Robert.

“Hey what’s that?”, asked Sam. It was a roller coaster without tracks, labeled as MAGICAL RIDE. “Can we ride it?”, asked Sally. “Alright”, said Sam, “but let us not forget to wear the seat belt”. The MAGICAL RIDE flew into the air and took them back to the place where the staircase split with the first staircase missing. The second staircase led to a world where everything was soft and made of pillows. “I’m sorry, I can’t stop myself from playing in all these pillows”, said Sally. “That’s okay because these pillows don’t seem magical”, said Sam. But to their surprise as soon as Sally sat on a pillow the pillow began to fly. “Help!”, said Sally. “How do we catch her, we can’t jump because the pillow is flying too fast and too high?”, said Robert. “We can use the MAGICAL RIDE”, said Sam. After a long chase with help of the MAGICAL RIDE they finally caught Sally.

“Off to staircase number 3”, said Sally. Behind the third staircase was the most dangerous world of evil wizards and witches. It is always night time in this world as wizards and witches hate day time. As soon as Sam, Robert and Sally went down the third staircase a magical bolt of light flew straight at Robert but just in time Sam pushed Robert aside and the bolt hit a tree nearby and changed it into a bird. “Amazing!” said Sally. “It’s not amazing it almost changed me into a bird”, said Robert. “Hey, that Witch is the one who sent that bolt of light”, said Sam. “So many witches and wizards”, said Sally. Suddenly a wizard shot a bolt of light at Sam and changed him into an anaconda. “Oh no! Sam is an anaconda”, said Sally. “I’ve got a plan”, said Sam. “You can talk even as an anaconda!”, said Robert. “So cool”, said Sally. “Let us all run away and I will crush the wizards and witches whenever they attack”, said Sam. “Are you sure?”, asked Robert. “Of course, I am”, said Sam. As they ran away, 3 or 4 witches tried to attack Robert and Sally but they were crushed by Sam. Seeing this a witch became invisible and changed Robert into a frog by shooting a bolt of light at him.

“Oh no! Robert has become a frog”, said Sally. “Don’t worry about me just keep running”, said Robert. As they ran further they reached the village of good wizards and witches. “Sally, maybe you can ask one of the good wizards and witches how to reverse the spell cast on us”, said Sam. “Are you sure?” asked Robert. “Yes, I am, as long as it’s okay with Sally”, said Sam. “It is okay with me”, said Sally. After a long search Sally found one of the good witches sitting by her house. Sally asked the witch how to reverse the spell cast on Sam and Robert. According to the witch the only way to reverse the spell cast on Sam and Robert was to make the same witch or wizard who cast the spell disappear. But the only power that can make them disappear is their own power. Sally told Sam and Robert everything the witch said. They thought for a long time until Sam had an idea. Sam’s idea was to use Sally as the bait and hide a mirror behind her back and as soon as the witch or wizard shoots a bolt of light at Sally she would move aside and the mirror would reflect the light back at the witch or wizard. “That’s a marvelous idea Sam”, said Sally. They tried the idea on the witch who changed Robert into a frog. And the idea worked! The next moment Robert became normal. They did the same on the wizard who changed Sam into an anaconda. And once again the idea worked.

Sam, Robert and Sally went a little further and they found a bridge. After they crossed the bridge they realized that the bridge had taken them back to the door at Sam’s basement. Once they went back into Sam’s house they remembered that they had been away for a long time. “We have to tell my mother”, said Sam. But to their surprise when they looked at the clock they realized that half a day on the staircase was only two minutes on Earth. It was indeed a great adventure on a staircase!

My Poem - THE ANGRY CHICKEN

THE ANGRY CHICKEN

                     By Varun Vijay

When I get angry, I sing in vain

My stomach and beak are all in pain.

The weather forecast says it’s going to rain

All my feathers have got a stain

I am so angry I can’t eat another grain.
